You Can Clean Your Hair Without Shampoo? Wait, What?

We're not talkin' dry shampoo ladies. On today's agenda, we're here to inform you about the magic of co-wash. Whether you’re already an avid co-washer, or just starting out, make sure to take notes!

What is a Co-Wash?

Co-washing stands for conditioner-only washing, also known as cleaning your hair with conditioner rather than shampoo.

Why Co-Washing?

Co-washing gently, yet effectively, rids the hair of dirt and buildup while nourishing and conditioning the hair. It’s a high slip cleanser that helps with detangling and leaves the hair feeling hydrated, soft, and silky!

Who Should Co-Wash?

Raise your hand if you have color-treated, coarse, unruly, thick or dry hair… If your hand is raised, your hair would benefit tremendously from a co-wash! It’s an ultra-hydrating conditioner-wash, that gently cleanses without ridding the hair of its essential, natural oils. Using a co-wash like our Avocado and Quinoa Co-Wash can actually extend the life of color-treated hair, because “Co-washing doesn’t strip strands of pigment the way traditional cleansing can.” Our Co-Wash also contains a lot of shea butter, one of the best natural solutions to gently detangle hair and enhance softness, texture and feel.

How Do You Co-Wash?

One of the most common misconceptions about co-washing is that it should be used as a complete replacement to your normal shampoo and conditioner routine… And that’s simply not right! Your scalp collects build-up over time from using products like hairspray, cream, gel, and of course, dry shampoo. No matter how clean your hair feels after co-washing, the leftover residue from your favorite hair products still lingers on your scalp and that can clog the hair follicle. This can lead to an itchy scalp, irritation, and hair loss (That's going to be a no from us). To prevent this from happening, we recommend using a deep-cleansing and hydrating shampoo like our Be Gentle, Be Kind Superfoods Shampoo in between co-washing. This will give your hair and scalp a nice deep clean, without stripping it of the oils it needs.

Some people are more visual learners, so to sum up this co-washing 411, we’re handing it off to YouTube star and beauty guru Shadh to wrap things up!
