This week, we’ll be discussing the many powerful properties of Carica (Papaya) Fruit Extract. Papaya, a fruit native to tropical regions of the Americas, is commonly known for many beneficial beauty properties in the cosmetic world. The extract, which comes from seeds of the papaya fruit, is typically listed in skincare products meant to exfoliate and/or brighten the appearance of skin while promoting a hydrated complexion. While it may be more common in topical creams or scrubs, papaya is good for your hair. We use papaya fruit extract in our Be Gentle, Be Kind Green Tea Shampoo, given the ingredient’s hydrating capabilities. It’s important that shampoos are balanced. While getting rid of dirt, oil, and buildup, shampoos should also replenish hydration to the hair to leave it soft and manageable. Papaya fruit extract is also rich in Vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant. Antioxidants are substances that help protect against free radicals, which are unstable molecules that can damage healthy cells and lead to a myriad of health concerns. Antioxidants are important in hair care because they help protect against the damaging effects of UV and sun exposure to the hair and scalp. Not to mention, papaya extract has a fruity and invigorating scent that we use to naturally enhance the fragrance of our formulas. Papayas certainly aren’t just for eating – their beauty-related benefits are numerous and play an important role in healthy hair care.
