Are You Using the Wrong Temperature on Your Heat Tool?

With heat tools' temperatures ranging anywhere from 250 degrees to 450, it's hard to decide your hair's heat boundaries. The temperature needed to style one's hair always depends on the texture of the hair: Fine/thin, medium, thick/coarse. To optimize heat styling while also protecting the hair cuticle, we recommend sticking to these temperatures:

But First, Heat Protect

Before we get into temperatures and such, make sure to ALWAYS use a heat protectant before heat styling. We're sure you've heard it before, but seriously, do it. Heat protectants essentially act as a shield between your hair and the tool. This way, your hair is less prone to breakage and split ends after heat styling. Our Farewell Frizz Blow Dry Perfection & Heat Protectant Crème is the ultimate hair product for heat styling. Not only does this crème protect the hair up to 450 degrees, but it contains good-for-you ingredients like hydrating rosehip oil, conditioning argan oil, moisturizing coconut oil and softening vitamin E to smooth hair and tame frizz.

Thin/Fine Hair

If your hair is on the finer/thiner side, we recommend sticking between 275-350 degrees max. Since the hair is smaller, we want to be a little bit gentler with the heat. This temperature also especially applies to those with damaged or chemically-treated hair as well since it's already more susceptible to breakage.

Medium/Average Hair

Medium hair can usually withstand a good amount of heat, but the perfect temperature for this hair type is usually around 365 degrees. This temperature is absolutely ideal because it provides the most optimal styling benefits while still retaining the hair's moisture levels and dealing the hair cuticle to provide shine.

Thick/Coarse Hair

Thick/coarse hair can definitely handle the heat, but still in moderation. For this hair type, set your heat styling tool temperature from 365 degrees to about 400 degrees. Anything above 400 degrees is entering into the danger zone, a.k.a. making it vulnerable to destroying the hair's natural keratin protein. This leads to all that unwanted damaged/breakage that we sometimes see from heat styling.

Post Heat Styling

After heat styling, there can still be some uninvited frizz after heat styling. Nobody's got time for that. To finish off all the hard work you put into your hair styling, our Farewell Frizz Rosehip, Argan and Coconut Oil Blend is the perfect cherry on top of your styled hair look. This nutrient-rich blend of natural oils effectively restores silky shine to lackluster hair and seals split ends for a luxurious and healthy finish. And that's the tea.

With heat styling the hair, our best advice is to avoid it as much as possible to maintain healthy hair, but, if you're going to apply the 🔥, then we recommend sticking to the correct temperature for your hair type!
